Prescribing Exercise for Children with ADHD

Elementary school aged children with symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder demonstrate increased attentiveness after exercising, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal. 

A recent study found that 31 minutes of physical exercise before school increased academic functioning, attentive control, and emotion regulation in children with symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. These findings are consistent with previous studies that demonstrated exercise improved emotion regulation in individual with symptoms of depression and anxiety.
